Collective Bargaining Rights

Historically, attempts to weaken federal employee unions have been met with strong resistance from workers and their allies. We are facing a similar challenge today, as proposed changes threaten the stability and effectiveness of our union at the FDA. We believe that collective bargaining is essential for maintaining a balanced and productive workplace. We are calling on our members, community partners, and the public to join us in advocating for the preservation of these fundamental rights.

Reduction in Force (RIF)

We understand the deep anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the ongoing Reduction In Force (RIF). The removal of valued colleagues without clear justification is unacceptable. We strongly believe the administration is failing to adhere to established RIF procedures and regulations, and we will make sure that NTEU is vigorously challenges these actions through all available legal and procedural avenues.

This is not merely about job preservation; it's about safeguarding the critical public health mission of the FDA. The expertise and dedication of our members are essential to protecting and promoting the health and safety of the American public. These arbitrary cuts, implemented without due consideration, directly threaten that mission.

To effectively combat this RIF and reinstate our colleagues, we need a unified and powerful response.

We urge you to:

  • Engage actively with your communities: Share the real-world consequences of these cuts on public health. Educate the public about the vital work FDA employees perform daily and how these reductions will negatively impact their lives.

  • Document and report any irregularities: If you witness or experience any deviations from established RIF procedures, document them meticulously and report them to NTEU immediately.

  • Participate in NTEU actions: Attend meetings, rallies, and other organized events. Your presence strengthens our collective voice.

  • Share your stories: Personal accounts of the impact of the RIF are powerful tools in our advocacy efforts.

  • Stay informed and connected: Regularly check for updates from NTEU and communicate with your colleagues.

Our success hinges on a multi-faceted approach, combining legal challenges, public awareness campaigns, and your active participation. By working together, we can amplify our voice, protect our colleagues, and ensure the FDA can continue its vital work for the American people.

Return to Office (RTO) orders

The RTO orders, which violate our contract and impose unreasonable commutes, are a calculated attempt to demoralize and destabilize our workforce. This is a tactic, not an oversight. We see this for what it is: an attack on your rights and your well-being. While distinct from a RIF, its intent is equally damaging. We must respond with unwavering resolve. Do not resign. Document every instance of hardship caused by these orders. Attend union meetings. Share your experiences with us. We are building a strong case to challenge these mandates and restore your rights. We will not yield. We will fight this together.

Dignity and Respect

We, your union representatives, have heard your concerns. Many of you have expressed feeling a profound lack of dignity and respect in your interactions with the administration. This is unacceptable. You are owed a workplace where your contributions are valued, your voices are heard, and your well-being is prioritized.

We understand that recent actions and decisions have eroded the sense of fairness and respect that should be the foundation of our professional environment.

Let us be clear: dignity and respect are not privileges to be granted or withheld at the administration's discretion. They are fundamental rights. We are professionals, and we deserve to be treated as such.
